On Wed (15th August, 2018) I’m booked to do twenty minutes stand up at The Spa, Bridlington. I’ve been building up to this a bit at a time, in order to try it out.
I’m proud to have done it, but I’ve realised it’s never going to be a career for me. Apart from anything, I’m not prepared to do all the travelling. Although there is still ‘talk’ about me maybe doing some stand up for the local Labour Party. I don’t think I could resist that one.
Mainly, it will be a relief to be able to just get back to my writing, without having to worry about any performing.
Having said all that, if any writer of comedy wanted to try stand up, in order to promote their work, I would say it’s worth a go. You lose nothing by trying it, and actually, I think I’ve gained in confidence and experience.
